How To Install Timber Corbels: A Step-by-step Guide

October 14, 2024 /Posted bymarinais / 402

Corbels can add a touch of charm to your house, especially when installed in the kitchen. They have a distinctive look and play an important role in supporting structures like shelves, countertops, and decorative items if the need be.

Corbels come in different styles like Corinthian, Fluted, and Floral to name a few. They can be made from wood like maple, oak, or rubber.

In this blog, we tell you how to install timber corbels once you’ve bought a pair from our collection.

Method 1: Using Wood Glue

Installing timber corbels by using wood glue is the simplest way to install these items. Here are the steps you need to follow in brief.

Step 1: Mark the position on the wall where you want to install the corbels. If you are installing two corbels, ensure that the positions are clearly marked, as you don’t want to end up with stain marks from the glue.

Step 2: Apply a sufficient amount of glue to the backface of the corbel. All you have to do is apply coin-sized circles of the wood glue to the backface of the corbel from top to bottom at a distance of half an inch from each other.

Step 3: Gently but firmly attach the wooden corbel to the wall. Hold for 60 to 90 seconds until the glue has dried. In case the corbel begins to slide, apply more glue to it and repeat Step 3.

Step 4: To ensure that your corbel stays in place, you can hammer a nail into the bottom part of the corbel so that it stays firm.

Method 2: Mounting The Corbels on Nails

This timber corbel step-by-step guide shows you how to mount the corbels on nails.

Step 1: Mark a position on the wall with a pencil where you propose to install your corbel. If you are installing two corbels, make sure you align these points carefully.

Step 2: Most corbels come with keyhole slots on the back which make installation easier. If your corbels don’t have these slots, you can make them easily. Here’s how. Drill two holes about 5 cm and 10 cm from the top of the corbel. These holes should be parallel so that the corbel is not unevenly aligned.

Step 3: The holes you drilled in Step 2 should be equal to the size of the nail head so that it can pass through the holes you have drilled. Once you have tested this, proceed to the next step.

Step 4: Use a pencil to make marks on the wall where you want to install the timber corbels. Make the marks for both corbels so you can hammer them quickly.

Step 5: When you begin to hammer the nail into the wall make sure it is at an angle of 45 degrees to the wall. Tilt the nail head slightly to achieve this angle. Continue to hammer in the nail until 0.64cm of the nail sticks out of the wall.

Step 6: Once the nails have been installed, all you have to do is fix the corbel into its place. Slide the corbel over the nails and secure them.

This was all about how to install timber corbels accurately and simply. Feel free to reach out to a professional for help if you have never drilled a nail in your life!

Wrapping Up

This was all about installing timber corbels in Melbourne in a simple way. All you need are a few tools like a drill, nails, and top-quality timber corbels.

Installing timber corbels can be a challenge for those unfamiliar with the tools. We’ve given you two simple solutions. While the installation solution with the glue is easier, you could opt to drill nails in if you are comfortable with handling tools.

So, on that note, check out our collection of timber corbels. You are sure to find something robust enough to cater to your liking.
